EDMOND – It’s a night that the Altus High Bulldogs will soon like to forget.
The Bulldogs went into the area championship game with third ranked Midwest City Carl Albert with a chance to garner a state tournament berth.
But the talented Titans showed why they are a strong contender for the Class 5A state title when they throttled the Bulldogs 77-44.
Despite that lopsided loss, Altus still was left with an opportunity to make the state tournament through the loser’s bracket. The Bulldogs was to have met Ardmore, a 66-62 winner of Oklahoma City Southeast. That game was played Saturday night.
Altus led on two occasions, once when Julian scored the first basket of the game to make it 2-0 and once when Braden Warren hit a shot to make 4-2.
Carl Albert then scored 14 unanswered points. The Titans never looked back they led 38-15 at halftime and 54-31 after three periods.
Altus had no answer for Harrison DuPont, a 6-4 senior, who is considered a division one prospect. DuPont scored 30 points.
Derrick Bull tallied 13 points and was the only player to score in double figures for Altus.
Creadell Pennon tallied eight points. The Bulldogs did welcome the return of Rapheal Bagley who had missed several weeks because of a knee injury. Bagley scored seven points.
