The annual Main Street Altus Cotton Pickin’ Chili Cook-Off was held in downtown Altus Saturday. Taking two of the top three prize was Phil Marcha. Marcha won 1st and Grand Champion in the chili division with his individual entry of “Phatboy Phil’s” chili. Marcha’s “Lucky 7s - Lucky Star Casino Barbecue also took 1st and Grand Champion in the barbecue division, followed by David Brown in second, and Bert Fox in third.

Chili Winners were:

Civic/Non-Profit: 1st place, Southwest Technology Center’s Sweet & Sassy Chili; 2nd place, SW Oklahoma Republican Women’s Red State Chili; and 3rd place, SWTC’s Dangerously Delicious Chili.

Commercial: 1st place, Plantation Village’s Chi Chi Chili; 2nd place, Best Western’s Best Chili; and 3rd, Salon Rouge’s “A Cut Above” Chili.

Financial: 1st place, First National Bank’s Chili For A Cure; 2nd place, NBC’s Chili Wins The Polls; and 3rd, First State Bank’s Harvest Chili.

Individuals: 1st place, Phil Marcha’s Phatboy’s Chili; 2nd, Brandon Gambill’s Biggie’s Chili; and 3rd, Linda Walker’s Yankee Chili.

Retail: 1st place, Simple Accents; 2nd place, Dora Lou’s Place’s Brew; and 3rd, Rustic Rose’s “Sho’ Nuff Good Chili.

Government/Military: 1st place, VFW’s Veterans Chili; 2nd place, 97th CES’s Dragon Spit Junior; and 3rd place, DAV’s Freedom Fighters Chili.

Church: 1st place, Altus Church of the Nazarene’s “Charming not Alarming Chili”; 2nd place, United Methodist Church’s Good Graces chili; and 3rd Altus Church of the Nazarene’s Parson Young’s Chili.

For Salsa, taking 1st place was Rebecca Stapp with Becca’s Salsa, 2nd place went to Tamarack Assisted Living Center with Rosanna’s Special Salsa, and 3rd place went to Fat Daddy’s Grimes Family Recipe Salsa.

1st place in the large booth displays went to Altus Firefighters, followed by Rustic Rose in 2nd, and Matt & Kellie Muller in 3rd.

In the small booth category, 1st place went to Dora Lou’s Place, followed by Crown Jewelry in 2nd place, and SWTC in 3rd place.

Spirit awards went to First National Bank, Johnson Vacuum Shop & Sewing Basket, Fat Daddy’s, SW Oklahoma Republican Women, Abby Lane, First State Bank, and David Brown. The Overall Spirit Award went to The Enchanted Door.
