Cody Toole and Danika Brooks were burned from a gas can explosion early Sunday morning, Oct. 28, while lighting a campfire. They were transported to Jackson County Hospital, where Danika was treated then released.

Cody was sent by helicopter to Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Cody has burns on 17 percent of his body and has gone through skin grafts on his left leg from the knee down. His right leg was used for donor skin. Doctors feel that his hands will heal in time without grafts. Doctors were very positive about the skin grafts and feel the grafts are taking well. After much physical therapy and 11 days in the hospital, Cody is walking slowly and is now at home. The wound care on burns is a daily process that takes about an hour in very sterile conditions. He will have to go back to Dallas for checkups at the burn unit.

The Brooks, Graves and Toole families would like to thank our communities, friends, and family for the continued prayers, cards of encouragement, donations, meals, thoughts and concerns. Cody is recovering from his burns, slowly but surely. Danika’s wounds are healing very well, but she will need strength to help Cody continue in his recovery efforts. The power of prayer has gotten them this far. The families ask you please continue to keep them in your prayers and thoughts.
