A mere five points separated WOSC and Carl Albert at halftime (38-33), but a determined Pioneer defense held their opponents to just 23 second half points and went on for an 87-56 victory here on Saturday.

Western’s offense kicked into high gear producing 49 points in the second period behind the strong play of Stirling Thomas (26 points), Jedarian Jackson (17 points) and Dii’Jon Allen-Jordan (11 points). Backup point guard Demontrey Mitchell had his best night of the year draining four three pointers on his way to 13 points.

Western improves to 7-2 and 1-0 in Region 2 play.

“This was a good collective effort where we all did not play well, but we played hard and things eventually went our way,” said Coach De La Barrera.
