Volunteers needed for Red Kettles

Tradition is the element that ties the holiday season so deeply to our memories. The smell of fragrant greenery and the feeling of warm gatherings signal that the season of giving is upon us. Blended together with these traditions for over 30 years are the familiar red kettles, manned by Salvation Army volunteer bell ringers.

The reason that the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign has enjoyed so many years of success is because many businesses, churches, civic clubs, school groups and individuals have volunteered to stand by the kettle and ring the bell. Without the work of these dedicated holiday helpers, the Salvation Army could not fulfill its year-long obligation to help needy families in our area.

Most importantly, the coins, dollars and checks collected in our kettles stay right here at home, working to improve the lives of individuals and families in Jackson County. These funds help The Salvation Army provide toys, clothing and food to thousands of needy but deserving families who would otherwise have little to celebrate on the holidays. The Kettle funds also help to insure that financial assistance is available for families in need, it allows our social service programs to happen, and gives us operating expenses to keep our doors open.

These things can’t even be a possibility without volunteer support. We need your help filling the two-hour shifts to ring the Salvation Army Bells. The bells of Jackson County need to ring through Christmas Eve (excluding Sundays). There are five locations to choose from, requiring lots of volunteers. Please consider helping.

Call 482-4236 if you would like to donate your most valuable resource—your time—to The Salvation Army this Christmas season as a Bell Ringer.
