Altus 8th girls defeat Elgin, Elk City

The Altus Junior High 8th grade girls continued their hot streak this past week by defeating Elk City and Elgin.

The Lady Dawgs defeated the Elkettes 25-23 and handled Elgin 34-29 in two games played last week.

The two victories give the Lady Dawgs a six game winning streak.

The Elk City Contest wasn’t as close as it sounded as the Lady Dawgs broke out to an 8-4 lead after one quarter. Altus then went four minutes without scoring while allowing the Elkettes to creep back into the at 8-6. The Lady Dawgs closed out the second frame with a 7-4 run to go into the half ahead 15-10.

Altus opened up the third quarter with a 6-0 run to build an eleven point lead but the Elkettes snuck back up as both teams scored 10 points in the quarter and Altus went into the final quarter up 25-20. Altus couldn’t manage a score in the final quarter while the Elkettes were able to score 3 points and Altus held on to take the victory 25-23.

Kiandra Knight lead Altus with 7 points while Brianna Barker added 6.

The Elgin game was pretty much the same story as Altus left the first quarter with a 11-9 lead. Altus tried to pull away for the Lady Owls in the second frame but could only outscore Elgin 8-6 to take a 19-15 lead into the half. The contest continued to be close as the Lady Dawgs outscored Elgin 6-5 to take a 25-20 lead into the final frame. Altus was able to outscore Elgin 11-9 in the final frame to take the victory.

Knight led Altus with 14 points while Jimmie Dollins added 6.
