The Olustee 5th and 6th grade classes recently completed a 10 week D.A.R.E. course with Altus Police Sargent Mike Bell. D.A.R.E. is a police officer-led series of classroom lessons that teaches children how to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives. The students “graduated” on Friday, Dec 14th with parents and other students in attendance. Police Chief Tim Murphy along with Sargent Mike Bell presented each student with a certificate of completion and then the students and their parents were treated to a reception in their honor. The students said they had learned different ways to say NO to drugs and alcohol and they also learned methods of dealing with peer pressure to resist things that could harm their bodies. Classmates in the lower grades said they looked forward to being able to attend the D.A.R.E. classes next year. The faculty of Olustee Elementary would like thank the Altus Police Department for making this program possible.
