Southwest Oklahoma Community Action Group Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, which helps low-income tax payers claim the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) will be offering free tax preparation services on Tuesday, Jan. 22, in Jackson, Harmon, and Greer counties for families and individuals with household incomes of less than $50,000.
RSVP volunteers prepare basic federal and state income tax returns and will counsel clients to make sure they claim benefits they are eligible for, especially the EITC. When the tax returns are completed, they will be filed electronically which will shorten the time it takes for Southwest clients to receive funds.
