Long time Altus resident, Angelia Christine “Christy” Byrd, 57, went to be with our Lord on Jan. 22, 2013 in Oklahoma City. She was born May 6, 1955 to Elsie William and Estle “Goss” Jameson. She resided with her parents until their untimely death in 1969, she was then raised by her grandmother Minnie Maebelle Goss. She lived in Altus all her life and attended Altus schools. She studied briefly at Berean Bible School, and obtained certificates in business at Altus Vocation Technical Institute. After graduating high school she met and married Thomas Lester Brooks. They had two sons, Jimmy L. and Randy D. Brooks.

Christy worked for Baker Oil, and was assistant manager for Amsco Steel, both of Altus. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting, and riding motorcycles, she also enjoyed traveling and collecting antiques. Most of all she enjoyed her grandchildren and her faithful dog Pooh Bear.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Billy and Bobby; sister, Cathey; and grandparents, William Goss Sr. and Mae Goss.

Survivors include sons, Jimmy L. Brooks and wife Crystal of Holdenville, and Randy D. Brooks and wife Christy of Harrold, Texas; three granddaughters; two grandsons; her companion, Jesus “Jessie” Mendiola of Altus; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Altus Cemetery.
