Altus Police are investigating a drive by shooting that occurred on Wednesday evening at approximately 6 p.m. in the 600 block. of Martin Luther King Dr.

Witnesses told police that a subject in a gray Dodge Neon began shooting at other individuals who were in the park at 600 West Pecan. Those subjects in turn returned fire at the Neon.

St. Johns Baptist Church was holding Wednesday evening church services at the time of the shooting, and received damage from two stray bullets that were fired from the suspect(s). A church member said that the shot were heard during the service, and that one of the bullets hit a metal door east of the main entrance (see photo). Luckily no one inside the church was injured. No other injuries were reported to police.

Police are continuing their investigation into this shooting, and investigators continue to speak with witnesses and persons of interest.

Altus Police Chief Tim Murphy asks anyone with information about the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 482-TIPS (482-8477).
