The 43rd annual Miss Altus Scholarship Pageant was held Saturday night at the City Auditorium. Crowned the new Miss Altus was Ashley Wheeler.
Wheeler, 19, of Altus, is a sophomore at Western Oklahoma State College majoring in biology. She attended Navajo High School. Her platform issue is “Read to Lead”, teaching youth the importance of reading.
Ashley’s goal is to obtain a doctorate of pharmacy ad pursue a career in the music entertainment industry. He talent for the pageant was a vocal to “I Want to be a Cowboy’s Sweetheart”.
Ashley is currently employed as a pharmacy technician at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.
Wheeler won the Physical Fitness/Swimsuit Award, the Poise and Elegance Award, and the Talent Award. Her prizes include a $1,600 college scholarship to the college of her choice, a $1,000 wardrobe allowance, and many gift certificates from local businesses.
The Miss Altus Scholarship Pageant is ways and means project of the Delta Eta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi which gives out thousands of dollars in scholarships and prizes to local young women.
