A new adult class, Portfolio Pastel Water Soluble Oil Paint, is being offered at the Altus Public Library from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, Feb. 25, 26 and 28. The fee for the class is $30, and all materials will be provided. Payment must be made at the library by noon on Monday of the first class. Space for the class is limited so pre-registration is required.

Instructor for the class is Bobby Avila, an instructor in the art department at Altus High School. Avila is a graduate of Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a degree in art education. He has taught in the Altus Public School System for the last seven years. Bobby is a regular instructor for the Shortgrass Institute and his workshops are always very popular so signing up early is necessary if you want to attend one of his workshops.

Portfolio Pastel Water Soluble Oil Paints are versatile, water-soluble oil pastels that offer artists flexible features. The paints come in bright, vivid colors and have the traditional creamy consistency of oil pastels. Dry blending into true secondary colors and wet blending into watercolor are just two of the techniques possible with these paints.

To attend the workshop you have to be at least 16 years of age. Call the library at 477-2890 to get your name on the list.

The class is sponsored by the Shortgrass Institute and is made possible by a grant from the Oklahoma Arts Council. For information about the class or the Institute call the library at 477-2890
