Altus High School Girls teams and Navajo High School Boys team both won first place at the High School Regional bowling tournament held at Sooner Bowl in Norman

Additionally, the Navajo High School Girls team took second place.

For the Regional High School Tournament, all teams bowled Baker format. The Baker format consisted of 5 bowlers rolling two frames each to complete the game. Each team bowled 8 games to determine their seed position, then continued into bracket play. The first and second place finishers advance to the state tournament next weekend.

The Altus Girls team bowled 8 games and was seeded 2nd in their division. They averaged 121 in the Baker format tournament.

In the Championship round, the Altus High School Girls team had to defeat the neighboring team of Navajo High School who was seeded 1st with an average of 133. The Altus Girls ran into some stiff competition with their rivals. The Altus girls won the first game, then Navajo Girls won the next game. The first team to win three games would be the regional champions, so the next game was key. Altus girls won the next two games to win the Regional Championship.

The Navajo High School Boys team bowled 8 games and were seeded fourth in their division. They averaged 145 in the tournament. In the first match, the Navajo boys swept their opponent Bishop McGuiness and moved on to the semi finals. This was a critical match because they had to bowl the number one seed, Norman High who averaged 180. After 4 games, the match was tied 2-2 and it came down to the final game. Navajo came out to bowl and defeated Norman High in the final game. In the final championship match the boys rolled against Norman North High School and went on to win 3 games to 1.

All three teams now advance to the State High School Bowling Championship which will be held Saturday, Feb., in Oklahoma City at Heritage Lanes.

There will be 16 boys and 16 girls teams from the 8 regional tournaments which were held this last weekend. The winners (and also the second place team) of each division advance to the State tournament.

In addition Sarah Standard, Brooke Carlson, and Cody Carlson were selected to the All Region team during the tournament.
