The Food and Nutrition department at Jackson County Memorial Hospital will host A Healthy Taste of JCMH on Thursday, March 14, inside the JCMH cafeteria beginning at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to everyone.
“We want to share fun and healthy ideas for eating simply and healthy,” stated Haley Rinkenbaugh, JCMH Registered Dietitian. “We want to make fruits and vegetables not only appetizing but desired.”
During the Healthy Taste of JCMH, some of the foods to be sampled include vegetable chili, roasted edamame, quinoa, plus fruits and vegetables from the salad bar.
“Eating can be healthy and fun,” stated Rinkenbaugh. “There are a great number of foods and just as many ways of preparing even the most traditional items. We like being creative.”
Danielle Jensen is the director of the JCMH Food and Nutrition department. She holds a graduate degree in dietetics from Oklahoma State University and is a registered and licensed dietitian. She has been at JCMH for 16 years.
“The Food and Nutrition department provides daily meals to patients, employees, family members and other guests. We operate a full-sized commercial kitchen seven days a week,” explained Jensen. “It can be a challenge to satisfy all of our patients, considering how well a patient is feeling or if a patient is restricted to a liquid diet. We work hard to make even broth and Jell-O as pleasing as possible.”
There are 33 employees in the Food and Nutrition department. The kitchen prepares meals 365 days a year. One-on-one dietetic counseling is provided in addition to meal planning and preparation.
The Healthy Taste of JCMH is free and open to everyone. To learn more, call 379-5771.
