The Altus Chamber of Commerce Committee of 100 welcomed Altus Air Force Base newcomers, students, and those returning from deployment during a “meet and greet” dinner event held Monday at the Altus High School Cafeteria.

After a catered buffet dinner provided by Luigi’s of Altus, Chamber of Commerce Chairman Jim Gover welcomed new Air Force members to Altus. Gover provided a brief history on the Committee of 100 and introduced Chamber Of Commerce President Holley Urbanski, Office Manager Marie Garrison, and Information Specialist Jessica Proffitt, and also asked the businesses of the Committee of 100 to stand and be recognized.

Colonel Tony Krawietz, Commander of the 97th Air Mobility Wing, then introduced and recognized his commanders who asked the new enlistees, students, and those who recently returned from deployment to rise and be recognized.

Following the introductions, the “Fang Masters” of Mangum entertained the audience with an educational program and a showing off three live rattlesnakes. Jack Cosey, with the Fang Masters since 1966, educated the audience while Fang Masters Keith Kendall, Stan Kendall, and Mike Toney weaved through the audience showing off the live rattlesnakes. Once the snakes were out of their box, clusters of kids and adults got up close to see the rattlesnake’s fangs and touch their rattling tails and to get close up pictures.

The 48th annual Mangum Rattlesnake Derby and Flea Market is set for April 26-28.
