Tishomingo- It wasn’t pretty but Western Oklahoma State (23-5, 7-3) got two wins at Murray State College on Saturday. The Pioneers won game one 2-1 in nine innings followed by a two run seventh inning in game two to win 5-4. Western used all three pitchers in the double-header and did not give up an earned run.

There was no score in game one until the fifth inning as Western pitcher Bailee Kaderka stifled the Aggies’ hitters throughout the day. In the top of the fifth Western got a run when Ashley Rutledge scored on an Aggie throwing error off a ground ball off the bat of Maggie McBrayer.

Murray State tied the game up in the bottom of the seventh off a sacrifice fly ball to send the game into extra innings. The run was unearned and a result of two Pioneer errors to begin the inning.

The score remained tied until the top of the ninth inning. Katy Fletcher led the inning off with a single to left field then scored later in the inning off a Kelsey Watson ground ball. Watson came on to pitch in the seventh inning and finished the game by striking out the side in the bottom of the ninth to give the Pioneers a 2-1 victory.

Kelsey Watson got the victory working the final three innings while not allowing a hit and striking out six. Bailee Kaderka started the game and threw six innings allowing only three hits and one unearned run. Kaderka started the game by retiring the first nine Aggie hitters. Western got two hits apiece from Bailey Spencer and Katy Fletcher in the game.

Murray got on top in game two with two unearned runs in the bottom of the second off Western starting pitcher Kelly Walton.

The Pioneers responded in the top of three. Rutledge led the inning off with a single followed by Emery Fox getting hit by a pitch. Two batters later, Rutledge scored on a ground ball to short off the bat of Spencer. Western then got another run off a rbi single from Kaderka to left field. The Pioneers got their final run of the inning when Malori Moss plated Spencer on a rbi single to left field giving Western a 3-2 lead. Walton responded to her one run lead holding the Aggies scoreless in the bottom of the third inning.

The score remained the same until the bottom of the fourth when Murray got two more unearned runs off one Pioneer error.

The Aggies kept their one run lead going to the seventh as Western was down to their final three outs. McBrayer led the inning off with a shot off the left-center field wall followed by a Spencer line drive single to left field to put two runners on with nobody out. The next two Pioneers hit into outs to bring Fletcher up to the plate with the tying run on third and the go ahead run on second with two outs. With a 3-1 count, Fletcher hit a sharp ground ball that ate up the Aggies’ second baseman to bring both runners home and put Western up one. Watson, who had come on to pitch in the fifth inning of the game, struck out the side in the bottom of the inning to seal the 5-4 victory for the Pioneers.

Kelsey Watson (14-2) worked the final three innings of the game once again not allowing a hit or a run and struck out seven. Kelly Walton threw well in her first collegiate start going four innings allowing no earned runs and striking out three.
