Temperatures in the county dropped to 24-25 degrees on the morning of April 7 which has caused damage to the county wheat crop.
Extension Educator Gary Strickland will be looking at wheat plant samples at 1:30 p.m., Thursday at the Southwest Research and Extension Center located south of Altus on U.S. Highway 283.
Wheat farmers that want to bring samples for this meeting should pull representative samples from their fields having both main heads and tillers if possible. Samples will be looked at on a first-come, first-serve basis. This meeting is being conducted in conjunction with regular field visits already set for Thursday to help facilitate wheat field inspections.
