Rogers, an accomplished guitarist, possesses the rare vocal ability to sound like Holly, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, and a host of other music icons. Rogers has performed in New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, London, and beginning June 1, will take his show to Branson, Mo. for the summer.
Altus resident Peggy Sue Clay says she was so impressed with Rogers during his first performance here, she offered to help put up posters, and secure sponsors for the show when it returned.
“He’s just amazing,” said Clay. “Johnny is the best entertainer I think I’ve ever seen. Everyone had such a great time the last time he was here. Hopefully, they’ll all get out and spread the word so we can have a full house this time.”
“Because we were able to get some local sponsors,” Clay added, “the ticket prices are only $15. You would have to pay twice that to see it in Branson.”
Mackenzie Hazel of Altus will also perform during the 8pm show. Tickets are available at Altus Parks and Recreation, Friendship Inn Restaurant, and Eddie’s Café in Altus. Tickets by phone are available by calling 580-816-0800.
Rogers is endorsed by members of Holly’s family, including Buddy’s older brother Larry. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the death of Buddy Holly, who was killed when the small plane he was riding in crashed on Feb. 3, 1959. The date became known as “The day the music died” in the song American Pie.
The concert is sponsored by The Altus Times, Everything Music and Sound, Rachel Madl-Mary Kay Cosmetics, Absolute Computer, Microtel Inns and Suites, Valir Physical Therapy, Privett Office Supply, Confectionately Yours, KWHW-KQ106, and KEYB Media Specialties.
