LAWTON – Everything was looking good for the Altus High Bulldogs in the fifth inning of their game with Lawton MacArthur Highlanders on Thursday afternoon.

The Bulldogs were leading the Highlanders 5-1 at that time. But the Highlanders used six walks and a couple of Altus errors to erupt for 12 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to defeat the Bulldogs 13-5.

Zack Neely had two hits including a double and single in two trips to the plate. Jackson Long had two hits including a double in three trips to the plate. Brandon Ybarra and Austin Beisel both had doubles. Braden had a single.

“We played well, got some hits early,” AHS coach James Rubi said. ‘We just had one bad inning.”

Altus is now 9-12 on the season.

Altus was placed in a regional tournament at Chickasha. Other teams in the regional will be Oklahoma City Northeast and Ardmore. The Bulldogs will likely play Ardmore in the first round. The regional will be played the week of May 4.
