ALTUS — One suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting that resulted in the death of a man Sunday morning.

Altus Police say 34-year-old Hai Phan was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the torso.

Police received a call at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday that a shooting had occurred at an apartment building at 1209 Springfield.

Capt. Mike Turner of the Altus Police Department said that the shooting actually happened in the parking lot of the Ridgecrest Apartments in connection to a robbery.

Police received a description of a vehicle leaving the scene. Officer David Dickerson was on routine patrol and was only two blocks away from the apartment building when he spotted that vehicle.

He stopped the auto and initially observed two occupants. After looking into the vehicle he noticed a third occupant who was a man who had been shot. Officers started to administer CPR but the man was pronounced dead when EMS personnel arrived at the scene.

Turner said that the two men in the vehicle were questioned and released. They were assumed to be taking Phan for medical attention.

Police have arrested one man, but are not releasing his name. The investigation is continuing and more arrests are possible.

Turner said that during questioning, the man arrested implicated himself in the robbery, but another person of interest is being sought for questioning in the homicide.

The victim has ties to Altus but is not to believed from here.

Anyone having any information about the shooting is asked to call Crimestoppers at 482-TIPS.

This is ridiculous. Altus is becoming like the bigger cities. The thing that gets me is it is a robbery. What happened to robbing and leaving him alive? Better yet what happened to going to get you a damn job and working for what you want and not take it from nobody. One of these days the citizens are going to light these thugs up-I betcha.
