Kurt Russell, head baseball coach, was recognized for his achievements during the 2009 season when the Western Oklahoma State College’s Board of Regents met in regular session Tuesday. The Pioneers advanced to the NJCAA Division II World Series for the second consecutive year.

Sandra Foster, math instructor at WOSC, was also recognized at the meeting. WOSC President Randy Cumby acknowleged Foster for being named the Air Force Association Teacher of the Year at Altus Air Force Base and the state AFA Teacher of the year.

Cumby also reported the progress of the faculty and staff on the strategic plan for the college, which is scheduled to be complete by the fall semester. He also reported that summer enrollment is currently up 19 percent from the previous year.

John Phelan, 2009-2010 IFA president, presented the Board with IFA’s plans to meet monthly with agendas provided to their members prior to meetings.

WOSC President Randy Cumby reported that In personnel matters, the Board approved the personal resignations of Nathan Wells, agriculture instructor, Cindy Ross, english/speech instructor, and Allan Meier, physical education instructor.

The Board then approved the 2010 fiscal year budget of $10,796,569. Western will not raise tuition or fees for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Lastly, the Board approved the election of Board Officers for 2009-2010. Dean Graumann was named chairperson, Renee Walker Gunkel, vice-chair, and John Hester, secretary.
