It’s Rodeo time again! Advance tickets are now available for the Shortgrass Arts and Humanities Council sponsored “Giddy-Up Gala” BBQ dinner, featuring Tommy Joe’s famous barbeque, and bluegrass music concert with Jimmy Henley and The Touch of Grass Band on Aug. 21 at the Expo Center. SAHC Board members Eddie and Joan Wilcoxen and Rodeo committee members Terri Anderson, Chris Cary, Josh Anderson, Jeff Koehler and Debbie Parker are promoting the Rodeo week events.
Jimmy Henley started playing the banjo at age seven and toured the bluegrass circuit in Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. At age 10 he won the World Bluegrass Banjo Championship in Memphis, Tenn. This title attracted the attention of Roy Clark and after five appearances on the TV show “Hee Haw” and a guest appearance on The Grand Ole Opry, he was hired as a featured act on Roy’s show and performed with Roy for over 25 years. Jimmy has played with many other artists such as Marty Stuart, Vince Gill, and Glen Campbell. He is a charming entertainer and has enjoyed wide acceptance from country and bluegrass fans of all ages, all over the world. His concerts provide entertainment for the whole family.
This Giddy-Up Gala event is sponsored by the Shortgrass Arts and Humanities Council and is held annually in conjunction with the Great Plains Stampede Rodeo. The barbeque dinner, featuring Tommy Joe’s famous BBQ along with homemade chocolate desserts, will be served at 5:15 p.m. and the music begins at 5:45 until 7:15 p.m. The concert will end in time to attend the rodeo. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children in advance; and $10 and $5 at the door. Partial funding is provided by the Oklahoma Arts Council.
