Man suffers unstable neck fracture from accident

An Altus man was transported to the OU Medical Center early Monday after a one-vehicle accident in rural Jackson County.

According to reports Jose Perez, 52, of Altus, was east bound on County Road 163 when his 2005 Chevrolet pickup departed the road to the left for about 132 feet, impacting a metal culvert. The vehicle then went airborne, coming to rest in a ditch.

Reports from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol state the cause of the accident was from being alcohol impaired.

Airbags were equipped and in use, but did not deploy.

There were passengers in the vehicle.

Perez was transported by Jackson County EMS to Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus where he was admitted in fair condition with external trunk injuries.

He has since been transferred by ambulance to the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City with an unstable neck fracture.

The accident was investigated by Trooper Brian Quinn of the Jackson County detachment of Troop M, and was assisted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Jackson County EMS and the Altus Fire Department.
