Two injured in one-vehicle accident

A Mangum man was air evaced to Comanche County Memorial Hospital with head and trunk injuries late last night after a one-vehicle accident south of the Hwy 6 junction in Greer County. A passenger in the vehicle was also injured and was taken to Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

According to reports from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Michael Collings, 43, of Mangum, was driving a 2002 Chevy Blazer southbound around 9 p.m. Thursday on Hwy 283 when he failed to negotiate a curve. Collings then crossed the center line, and then overcorrected before rolling 1/2 time to its top, and then sliding 206 feet before coming to rest off the roadway.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

A passenger in the vehicle, Nathan Shirley, 49, was transported to Jackson County Memorial Hospital with trunk and arm injuries before being taken to Oklahoma City.

Seatbelts were equipped, but not in use by the driver.

The accident was investigated by Trooper Trinity Simmons of the Kiowa County detachment of Troop M. She was assisted by Troopers Dirk Hamon, Tyler Shelby, Josh Tinsley, Jackson County EMS, Greer County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the Blair Fire Department and Air Evac.
