Top times and personal bests were brought home by Altus Firefighters after the Combat Challenge held in Tyler, Texas, this weekend.

Altus Team Dr. Pepper placed in the top 16 for team competition and won the “Over-40” Relay title.

Jimmy Rogers, Altus Assistant Fire Chief, placed 32nd in overall individual competition. He placed seventh in in the Over-40 competiton.

Team Dr. Pepper’s Michael Grayson placed 13th in the Over-40.

Team Dr. Pepper’s Tommy Sadler took a silver medal in the Over-50 division.

This weekend’s Scott Firefigher Combat Challenge is similar to the ones hosted in Altus the past two years. The challenge seeks to encourage firefighter fitness and demonstrate the profession's rigors to the public.

Wearing "full bunker gear" and the air-pak breathing apparatus, pairs of competitors race head-to-head as they simulate the physical demands of real-life firefighting by performing a linked series of five tasks including climbing the 5-story tower, hoisting, chopping, dragging hoses and rescuing a life-sized, 175 lb. "victim" as they race against themselves, their opponent and the clock.
