In days of old when knights were bold, members of nobility were often presented with actual keys to city gates. The people who lived within those walls were entrusting their lives and all their worldly possessions to that person. That’s why we have the tradition of awarding giant replicas of keys today. The Altus Habitat for Humanity will soon be presenting the actual keys to a new Habitat home. Rita and Raymond Soloman have worked hard on their home, which will be dedicated Saturday, October 10 at 10 a.m.

New home dedications are special to Habitat. They represent the fruition of many hours of hard work and comradery providing another family with affordable quality shelter. The new homes are blessed by pastor or priest and the family’s home church usually presents the new dwellers with a family Bible. Refreshments are served and an open house is held allowing people to see the results of the team effort. In Altus, many of the hard working Habitat volunteers are stationed at Altus Air Force Base.

Our Altus Habitat will hold a ground breaking ceremony on their seventh house in October. It will be located on a lot on Navajoe, north of Broadway. Currently the Lions Club is maintaining the lot for Habitat. A big thanks to all who are helping make Altus a better place.
