Ray Lockwood Jones Jr. was born April 3, 1944, in Sentinel. He passed away peacefully on Oct. 25, 2009, with his family by his side.

Ray grew up in Cordell, and graduated from Cordell High School in 1962. He attended Westminster College in Fulton, Mo., and was a member of the Alpha Delta Chapter of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Oklahoma in 1966, and graduated from the OU College of Law 1969. Upon graduating from law school, he served as assistant district attorney in both Frederick and Altus. He then partnered with his father in the private practice of law in Cordell from 1974-1988. In 1988, he was appointed District Judge over the Third Judicial District of Oklahoma, and served in that capacity until 1995. The last 14 years of his life were spent in private law practice and as the attorney for deprived children in Canadian County.

Ray was quick to remind everyone what a full and wonderful life he had. He loved spending time with family and friends, watching OU football, and reminiscing about his wilder days with his Beta brothers.

Ray was preceded in death by his father, Lockwood Jones; his mother, Ellen Jones; and his sister, Janet Eden.

Ray is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Reida; his children, Melissa, Matt and his wife Gayle, Erin and her husband Patrick; his grandchildren, Morgan, Haley, Connor and Colin; and his great-grandson, Carter; step-grandchildren, Lindsay Hall and Tyler Boren.
