The annual “Harvest for the Hungry” food drive to help restock the pantry of the Community Cupboard is currently under way.

Many in the community are joining the efforts of the Jackson County Community Health Action Team, as various youth organizations deliver sacks to Altus residents this Saturday. The sack will include information about the drive and items needed. The sacks will be picked back up next Saturday, Nov. 14.

Harvest for the Hungry is one of the main means for stocking the shelves of the Community Cupboard which provides for emergency food needs of people throughout the year. There are collection boxes located at many local businesses.

Non-perishable food items, dried peas, pasta, rice, flour, sugar, cornmeal, powdered milk and peanut butter and jelly are among the items suggested for donation.
