The Altus Chamber of Commerce hosts Farm City Week each year with joint activities between the Chamber and AAFB including farm tours, a banquet and a flight refueling. Above, the Peanut Hut at Altus Peanut Company was a popular place during Wednesday’s tour, where free samples of roasted and flavored peanuts were given out. A Farmers Appreciation Luncheon and Farm Tours were heldWednesday, and the Farm City Banquet will be held tonight. There was also an Orientation Flight held today at which Colonel Jon Thomas hosted two great flights on KC-135 aircraft. A selection of farmers, ranchers and business people were invited to participate in the flight.

This is the 32nd year for Farm City Week which highlights what agriculture means to our local economy, and informs everyone of the various agriculture crops grown and produced in Jackson County and southwest Oklahoma. Farm City Week is also used to show appreciation to all those involved in farming, ranching and other agriculture pursuits. Agriculture is a multi-million dollar facet of our economy. The theme for Farm City Week is “Farming, Flying and Community – the Pillars of Southwest Oklahoma".

Tonights banquet gets under way at 6:30 p.m. in the Altus High School Cafetorium. A very special program on The Great Western Cattle Trail will be presented by Dennis Vernon, Maurice King and Yudell Barton. The KWHW Radio” Legends of Agriculture” award will be presented at the banquet. Master of Ceremonies is David Braddock.
