Emergency vehicles headed north out of Altus Saturday in response to reported fighting at the Oklahoma Reformatory in Granite.

According to reports, a total of six inmates were transported to hospitals after fighting errupted at three Oklahoma prisons - Granite, the Dick Conner Correctional Center in Hominy, and the Cimarrron Correctional Facility in Cushing.

The majority of those injured were from the prison in Granite where fights broke out between American Indian and Hispanic prisoners.

Department of Corrections spokesman Jerry Massies said that fights, stemming from attacks, were coordinated by inmates at the three prisons.

The first attacks were reported at the Granite prison, followed soon after at the medium-security prisons in Hominy and Cushing.

Of those injured, there were four from Granite, all said to be in stable condition from stab wounds.

Massie also reported that medium-security prisons across the state remain on lockdown status today, which limits movement inside the facilities.
