Altus man in critical condition after being ejected from one-vehicle accident

An Altus man was critically injured in a one-vehicle accident at about 9:15 p.m. Monday.

According to reports from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Jose Santiago, 28, was southbound in a 1993 Ford Explorer on County Road 212 about 2/10 of a mile north of East County Road 158 in Jackson County when the accident occurred.

For an unknown reason, Santiago left the right side of the roadway and impacted the ditch. The vehicle then overturned two complete times, ejecting the driver. Seatbelts were equipped, but not in use.

There were no passengers in the vehicle.

Santiago was transported by private vehicle to Jackson County Memorial Hospital with trunk internal injuries.

Unsafe speed was said to the cause of the accident.

The accident was investigated by Trooper Josh Tinsley of the Jackson County detachment of Troop M of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
