OKLAHOMA CITY -- Sen. Mike Schulz recently announced that the city of Altus has been awarded a Community Development Block Grant to help with water system improvements.

According to the Oklahoma Department of Commerce Office of Community Development, the city of Altus will receive a 2009 Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG) award.

Altus was approved for a grant of $82,000 which will be used to fund water system improvements. Schulz said the grants were provided through funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

"This announcement is good news for the community," said Schulz, R-Altus. "This grant will allow Altus to complete an important upgrade to their water system, resulting in even better service to the area."
