Lady Bulldogs lose heartbreaker, Iowa Park, Cache hit finals

The Cache Lady Bulldogs and the Iowa Park Lady Hawks earned their way to the championship game of the Lady Bulldog Classic with semifinal wins on Friday night.

Iowa Park won a thriller from Altus 42-41 while Cache rolled by Enid 57-36.

In consolation games Lawton MacArthur squeaked by Childress, Texas 40-39 and Wichita Falls, Texas defeated Lawton Eisenhower 56-50 in two overtimes.

The championship was set for Saturday along with three other games. Altus was to have met Enid in the third place game. Wichita Falls played Lawton MacArthur in the consolation championship game while Childress met Eisenhower in the seventh place game.

Iowa Park 42, Altus 41

Semifinals

The Lady Bulldogs lost a heartbreaker. They trailed most of the game but when Ebony Nelms hit a free throw with 7.6 seconds left in the game it was tied 40-40.

However, Iowa Park’s Whitney James drove the length of the floor and was fouled by Mahogany Nelms. James missed the first free throw but made the second to make it 41-40 and give the victory to the Lady Hawks.

Altus had their chances. They missed their last five field goal opportunities including two layups. The Lady Bulldogs hit only six of 16 free throws while Iowa Park was 16 of 23 at the charity stripe.

The bright spots for the Lady Bulldogs were three sophomores. Tatyana Bell and both Nelms girls accounted for 39 of the 41 points for Altus. Bell had 16 points. Ebony Nelms 12 points and Mahogany Nelms 11 points.

Presley Gann led the Lady Hawks with 13 points.

Cache 57, Enid 36.

This one went as expected. The talented Lady Bulldogs were too much for the Pacers.

Cache was paced by Honor Duvall, who had 19 points and Lauren Winham, who had 15 points Lindsey Carter finished with 11 points.

Courtney Chelf led Enid with 11 points.

Wichita Falls 56, Eisenhower 50 (2 OTs)

Consolation

The Lady Coyotes outscored the Lady Eagles 11-5 in the second overtime to pull out the victory.

Carolyn Taylor scored 18 points, Katie Lucus 16 points and Lexie Brown 10 points to lead Wichita Falls.

Veronne Clark tallied 22 points to pace the Lady Eagles.

MacArthur 40,

Childress 39

Consolation

Alexiz French made a free throw with 6.6 seconds remaining in the game to break a tie and give the Lady Highlanders the victory.

A last second shot by Childress wasn’t successful.

French and Jazzmine Pride led MacArthur with nine points each.

Tanasia Cornish paced Childress with 10 points.
