The Board approved a request by Dr. Phil Birdine, Vice President of Academic and Student Support Services for a new online associate degree in criminal justice.
The Board addressed matters regarding the latest expenditure comparison report.
Chairman Dean Graumann presented formal resolutions for the retirement of staff members Alan Meier, Donn Rowlett, and Bruce Wiese. The Board approved this resolution.
Bruce Wiese, vice president for business affairs, reported on the upcoming National Incident Management System (NIMS) compliance agreement. The state is requiring all schools to be fully compliant by the end of the 2010 year. The Board approved Western to sign a letter of formal adoption of NIMS requirements.
Dr. Birdine gave a presentation on Western’s recent designation as a 2009-2010 Military Friendly School. Western was voted military friendly after meeting all standards for serving service members and their families. Chairman Graumann was presented the plaque awarded to Western for this recognition.
President Randy Cumby reported on increased enrollment, rising 23 percent from last year at this time. He also thanked all faculty and staff for their efforts in making this possible.
In personnel matters, the Board approved the retirement resignation of WOSC President, Randy Cumby, at the end of June 2010. Chairman Graumann announced the creation of a committee to explore options in filling this position. The Board also approved the resignation of Nicole Lyons, Director of Public Information and the appointment of Tricia Latham as Vice President for Business Affairs, beginning Jan. 1, 2010, and Bruce Wiese as Director of Facilities and Public Safety, beginning in 2010.
The next meeting is set for Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. in the Board of Regents room at Western Oklahoma State College.
