Altus and area residents awoke to a white Christmas eve today as a storm front brought a freezing rain, sleet and snow mix into the state.

Due to high winds and ice, both power lines and feeder lines were broken leaving most of Altus without power early today.

Some outages were reported as early at 4 a.m. with most outages occurring around 6 to 7 a.m.

Some areas in northwest Altus never experienced a power outage, but crews were out working areas to restore power to the rest of the city. The first areas to go out were in south Altus.

The National Weather Service said tonight would be windy, continuing to blow snow, and occasional snow will continue falling in eastern Oklahoma. Lows are to fall into the teens and 20s.

Skies are to become partly cloudy for Christmas Day with cold temperatures from the mid 20s to the mid 30s.

Saturday is to be mostly cloudy and cold with highs reaching the 30s statewide while overnight lows range from near 10 degrees to around 20.
