The winter storm that blew in freezing rain, sleet and snow early Thursday morning left Altus streets not only white for Christmas, but slick and hazardous. There were countless vehicles that slide through intersections and into ditches and other vehicles through the holiday. Many vehicles got stuck in parking lots and driveways, as seen above left, and some youngsters took advantage of the situation to make a few extra dollars shoveling driveways, above right. Snowfall accumulations were reported between 4 and 6 inches in some areas. Although the heavy snowfall in the Altus area stopped by early afternoon on Christmas eve, road conditions remained hazardous in some areas into the weekend. A large part of Altus was also without power Thursday morning, but was later restored. Some parts of Altus was also without power for about an hour on Saturday as City electrical crews had to shut off power to make necessary repairs after the storm.
