3 injured in one- vehicle, New Year’s Day accident

A Frederick man and two passengers were injured in an early-morning accident on New Year’s Day.

According to reports from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Jim Jon Carr, 47, of Frederick, failed to negotiate a curve, two miles south of Chattanooga on Highway 36 in Tillman County shortly after midnight on New Year’s Day. He left the road and collided into a cement culvert, rolling one time. Carr was ejected from the vehicle. He was later taken to Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton where he was admitted in stable condition with head, neck and internal injuries.

A passenger in the vehicle, Manuel Gutierrez, 46, of Frederick, was also taken to Comanche County Memorial with neck and back injuries. He was treated and released.

A second passenger, Jennifer Akin, 25, of Frederick, was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital where she was treated and released with neck injuries.

Seat belts were equipped but not in use by the driver, but were in use by the passengers.

The accident was investigated by Trooper Mitchell Witt of the Tillman County detachment of Troop M, and was assisted by the Tillman County Sheriff’s Office, Grandfield EMS and the Tillman County EMS.
