ELDORADO – What some has described as a riot caused the cancellation of a basketball game between the Eldorado Panthers and the Geronimo Blue Jays on Friday night.

At 7:37 p.m. the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department received a call from an Eldorado police officer saying he needed help in controlling the crowd. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol and a deputy from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department responded.

The crowd reportedly became disenchanted with the referees and an argument ensued. The report also said members of the crowd began to argue amongst themselves and several fights broke out.

School officials decided to cancel the boys game at around 9 p.m. The bus carrying players and coaches were also escorted out of town.

There were no arrests made and no major injuries were reported.
