Gwendolyn Warren, 87, was traveling west bound on County Road 161 last night at about 7 p.m., when she failed to stop at the stop sign at the US Hwy 283 intersection, striking a van being driven by Laura Morin, 57, of Altus.

When the vehicles came to a rest, the Warren vehicle was on the west side of US Hwy 283 facing northwest, and the Morin vehicle was in the ditch in front of the movie theatre facing east.

Warren was transported to Jackson County Memorial Hospital by Jackson County EMS and was admitted in stable condition with arm and trunk injuries.

Morin was also taken to JCMH where she was treated and released.

There were four passengers in the Morin vehicle, three of which were ejected from the vehicle in the accident. All were transported by Jackson County EMS to JCMH.

Passenger Ruben Landa, 12, was admitted to JCMH in critical condition with head, arm and trunk internal injuries. He was later transported to the OU Medical Center by Air Evac.

The second passenger, Jesus Morin, 56, refused treatment.

Passenger Vanessa Landa, 31, was admitted in stable condition with arm injuries.

Macella Landa, 10, the fourth passenger in the vehicle, was treated and released.

Seatbelts were equipped and in use by the drivers of the two vehicles, and by passenger Jesus Morin, but not by the other passengers.

The accident was investigated by Trooper Trinity Simmons, and was assisted by Trooper Sherman, Hayes, Jewell, Lt. Holloway, the Altus Police Department, Altus Fire Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson County EMS, the Blair Fire Department, the Martha Fire Department and the Friendship Fire Department.
