Bids were opened at 5 p.m. Wednesday for various projects planned for renovation at Altus High School.

The renovations are part of the MAPS tax that is also being used to build the new Altus Municipal facility on South Main.

The inside of the northwest end of Altus High School has already been gutted, and the area behind the main building has been cleared in preparation for the projects that will include a new wing of classrooms.

The plans are to move the library/media center into the main building, leaving the old school library (located in the northeast corner of the Altus City Park) for the City to use as the new Senior Citizen’s Center.

According to representatives with Altus Schools, it took about two hours to open all the bids, and a lot of the contractors that submitted bids were in attendance for the openings.

After the bids are compiled and ready, they will be presented to the School Board for consideration.

The bid openings were not an official meeting, and board members were not present.
