The City’s Public Information Officer, Matt Coppock, announced last night that although they had been told that electricity should have already reached Altus by that time, it had not yet happened, and that City officials had been trying to get in touch with PSO officials about the situation, but was unable to contact them.
Altus residents went to bed with hopes of power restoration dashed for another day, but some awoke in the early morning hours to the sound of heating units firing up and lights on in their homes.
By 2 a.m., most residents who were going to get the initial power restoration, had it. Other will have to wait until City crews can fix the remaining broken lines and other connections problems.
It was estimated that 60 percent of Altus had power as of this morning.
There was still no school for teachers and students of Altus Schools, but administrative and other support staff reported in to discuss the situation and access any damage and make decisions about when school would re-start in Altus.
Altus Air Force Base, who had issued a temporary evacuation of military personnel and families, as well as Civil Service employees and their families, was also waiting for full power as of this morning.
