There have been a few reports of home burglaries since the power went out in Altus last Thursday, but local authorities say that keeping a strong police presence in neighborhoods have kept crime to a minimum.

“Of the four or five home break-ins since the power outage last week, there were only a couple where anything was taken,” said Mike Turner of the Altus Police Department.

“We have been keeping a strong police presence in neighborhoods, patrolling and watching for suspicious behavior,” he said.

Police also suggest that suspicious behavior be called into police to help thwart any potential thefts.

If you know a neighbor is away from home, and you see activity around their house, call the police.

Aside from the few home burglaries since the power outage in Altus, there have also been reports of stolen generators and other outdoor items.

In one report, a man got up during the night to use the restroom, but his lights were not on. He said he could still hear his generator running and went outside to check for cord connections, only to find that someone had taken his generator.

In its place was a running lawn mower to mock the sound of a generator running to stave off suspicion of the theft.
