Jo Ann Stephens, 74, of Altus, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday at the Glad Tidings Assembly of God with the Rev. John Johnston and the Rev. Justin Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

Jo Ann was born to Claude and Maggie Juanitta (Chambers) Lovett on Aug. 3, 1935, in Hess. She attended and graduated from Olustee Schools. She married James A. Stephens Jr., on June 24, 1951, in Olustee. As a nurse, Jo Ann organized the Respiratory Therapy Department for Jackson County Memorial Hospital in 1970 and went on to be Director of the Respiratory Therapy Department at Tillman County Hospital in Frederick in 1972. She was Director of Respiratory Therapy in Duncan from 1974 until 1977. She worked for several years at Dr. Lee’s office, starting in 1977. She worked at Dr. Carter’s office from 1997 to 2000, before finally retiring. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW and the Glad Tidings Assembly of God. She enjoyed needlepoint, cross-stitching and painting. She loved the Dallas Cowboys and the Oklahoma Sooners.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband James;and one brother, Benny Lovett.

She leaves behind a daughter, Jeri Stephens of New Orleans, La.; a son, Jim Stephens of Altus; a grandson, Zane Stephens of Rio Rancho, N.M.; a granddaughter, Anita Stephens of Altus; and a great-grandson, Grant Stephens of Rio Rancho, N.M.

Family visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
