Feb. 21-27 is Severe Weather Awareness week in Oklahoma, according to an announcement from the National Weather Service.

"It's hard to imagine severe weather is just weeks away," said Jerry Gibson, Jackson County Emergency Management director. "Just a few weeks ago we were in the grips of a severe winter ice storm."

Feb. 25, Jackson County and City of Altus will host a severe weather briefing from the National Weather Service at 6:30 p.m. at the Southwest Technology Center, 711 W Tamarack.

"This briefing is important to the City of Altus to continue with the StormReady program," said Lloyd Colston, Altus Emergency Management director.
