Jerry E. Burnett, 70, of Joshua, Texas, passed away Friday, April 2, 2010, at the John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.

He was born March 28, 1940, in Eldorado to Holly and Ruby (Robbins) Burnett. Jerry graduated from Eldorado High School and then joined the United States Army, where he served during the Vietnam War.

Jerry worked for Mrs. Bairds Bakery for 48 years. He married Sue Carrell Feb. 7, 1980, in Olustee.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a great-nephew, Baby Will.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Sue Burnett, of Joshua, Texas; one daughter, Dalana Barnes Johnson, also of Joshua, Texas; one sister, Janice Miller and husband Bob Miller of Lakeworth, Texas; grandchildren, Matthew Barnes, Jessica Barnes Grisham, Ethan and Elizabeth Johnson, McKenzie, Bianna, and Kaitlyn Glosson; great-grandchildren, Evan and Jadyn Grisham; nieces, Robyn Steward and husband Doug and Marilyn Edans and husband Randy; his “favorite person”, great-nephew, Chad Steward; and other numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family will receive friends at Lowell-Tims Chapel in Eldorado from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Jerry will lie in state at Lowell-Tims Chapel in Eldorado from 3 to 9 p.m. today and will be moved to the church in Eldorado at 10:30 a.m.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Eldorado with Pastor Darrel Auvenshine officiating. Interment will follow at Eldorado Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
