Bulldogs lose to Woodward and Anadarko in 13 inning marathon

Saturday wasn’t a very good day for the Altus High Bulldogs

They lost two games, a 4-1 decision to Woodward and a 17-14, 13 inning marathon to the Anadarko Warriors.

Woodward 4, Altus 1

The Bulldogs could not get anything going offensively. They collected only four hits.

Kaleb Evans had two singles while Dillon Ridley and Austin Beisel had one hit a piece.

There was a bright spot for the Bulldogs. They did not commit an error for the third straight game.

Anadarko 17, Altus 14

The marathon lasted for four hours.

Altus trailed 8-0 but battled back.

It appeared like the game would end in the 12th inning. Anadarko scored four runs in the top of the 12th. However the Bulldogs rallied for four runs of their own. Sinjin Cramer, Evans, Brandon Ybarra, Ridley all had hits in the inning. Altus scored all four runs after two outs.

The Warriors plated three runs in the top of the 13th. a bases loaded triple by Michael Hayes was the big hit. Hayes’ shot to left field was nearly caught by Evans who tried to make a diving catch.

Altus could not scored in the bottom of the 13th.

Robby Suniga and Austin Beisel each had home runs for Altus.

Bulldog notes: The defensive play of the game was turned in by Altus rightfielder Shelby Worbes. Worbes fielded a a base hit and right field and fired a rocket like throw to the plate throwing out an Anadarko runner at the plate. That play kept the scored tied for a moment. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs Haye’s triple followed.

Sophomore Dom Nortonen turned in a stellar performance threw seven innings of shutout ball. In his eighth inning on the mound, he tried to field a bunt and fell to the turf. He suffered a knee injury and had to be carried from the field. It was not know the extent of his injury.

Altus picked off four runners on Saturday. They have now picked off 22 runners in 21 games.

Altus is 10-11 on the season. They will travel to Duncan for a 4:30 p.m. game on Tuesday.
