Darrin was born on May 5, 1966, in Altus to Buck and Elmeda (Olson) Payne. Living in Duke all of his life, Darrin graduated from Duke High School in 1984, where he was active in 4-H, FFA, baseball, basketball and rodeo. Darrin graduated from Western Oklahoma State College in 1987, and while there he was the Aggie Club President and on the WOSC Rodeo Team. After college graduation he began farming, cowboying, and working at the grain elevator. For 10 years he worked for Jackson County District 3 while he continued to farm.
On July 25, 2002, Darrin married Donna Elkins at Quanah, Texas, and they made their home in Duke until his death. Darrin was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father and friend who will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; and his father, Buck Payne, in 2005.
Darrin is survived by his wife Donna of the home; one daughter, Bridgett Gifford of Duke; two grandchildren, Keelie Gifford and Kayden Gifford of Duke; his mother, Elmeda Payne of Altus; one brother, Duane Payne and wife Tara of Victoria, Texas; one niece, Bailey Payne of Victoria, Texas; two nephews, Cole Payne and Jake Payne of Victoria, Texas; his mother and father-in-law, Carol and Eleanor Elkins of Sentinel; three brothers-in-law, Rex Elkins and wife Karen of Weatherford, Rick Elkins and wife Kae of Sentinel and Allen Elkins of Clinton along with many other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Carol Elkins and Pastor Charles Stewart officiating. Interment will follow at the Victory Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
The family will greet friends at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home on Monday evening from 6 to 7 p.m.
