District Attorney John Wampler said Burc, the suspect in the robberies, was taken into custody Tuesday without incident.
Burc was arrested south of Altus in Jackson County by agents of the District Three DA Drug Task Force, Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Altus Police and the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics.
Wampler said his office filed felony charges of Robbery with a Weapon late last week against Burc in both Greer and Tillman Counties. Bond was set in Tillman County at one million dollars, and $500,000 in Greer County, and authorities have been searching for the defendant since that time.
It is believed that Burc was coming to Altus from Texas to turn himself in, but Wampler said a decision was made to interdict him in a rural setting without giving Burc the chance to drive into a more populated area. Wampler also said that Burc was interviewed by law enforcement and authorities have recovered the gun believed used in both robberies.
Burc is now in custody at the Greer County Jail and will likely appear on Thursday in District Court in Mangum for an initial appearance, and at a later date in Tillman County.
