Two issues were left without action taken at the Jackson County Commissioners meeting, held Monday, June 7. They both involved parts for the courthouse elevator. Anyone who has been in the elevator knows how slow it has become. The commissioners are seeking more information before buying parts for the door restrictor and the hall stations with buttons on the outside of the three floors.

The meeting went smoothly with all three commissioners present. The minutes of the Friday, May 28 were approved, along with two reports. One report was from the Treasurer's Office and one from the Election Board.

During the officer's reports, Assessor Gerald Sherrill asked if there was any news regarding the repair of the fascia on the east side of the courthouse. Commissioner Dale Dunn said that Pat Burk and Joe D. Hall have been assessing the situation. The mortar joints have been eroded through weathering. It is the mortar joints that hold the fascia in place. Now, not only the east side may be affected by deterioration, but all four walls of the courthouse may need fascia repair. Treasurer Janet Wright remarked that nothing had been done to repair the fascia for years. Sherrill asked if all the bricks either side of the area needing repair would need to be taken down to know the extent of deterioration. Dunn said there may be a technique of drilling into the mortar to check the mortar strength. This situation "could be pretty, pretty serious," Dunn remarked. The commissioners are expecting information in a week or two on the scope of work.

Also in officer reports, County Clerk, Christi Hair, said there was a correction on the appropriations for May. They should be $401.72.

Dunn said that classes will be held for the SW Oklahoma districts on changes in state and county funding. These classes will be held June 22 in the Frisco Center in Clinton, at noon.

There were no blanket purchase orders to approve.

Jerry Gibson, County Emergency Management Director, presented information on a Justice Assistance grant for bulletproof vests. The commissioners approved Gibson to apply for the grant which could pay for 14 vests, at $699 each, totaling $9,786. The maximum grant amount is $10,000.

Also approved was a title sheet for project 133D9101) CO.

The commissioners approved the commissioners proceedings for May.

In new business, Commissioner Fixico received a letter from the Department of Human Services. The letter said that anyone in need should be referred to DHS. Fixico also told the commissioners that there will be a public hearing on the Allen's Sleep Center signage. It will be held June 9. Fixico will go representing the commissioners. There was no public or vendor participation items.

The claims were all approved and the meeting was adjourned at 10:40 a.m.
