The parade is part of the Centennial Celebration for the Abernathy Boys historic ride from Frederick to New York City in 1910, at the ages of 10 and 6. Their father, Jack, was a family friend of Theodore Roosevelt, and they went to New York City to greet Roosevelt returning from his African Safari trip. They were greeted as celebrities, and rode their horses in a ticker-tape parade just behind the car carrying Theodore Roosevelt.
All entries are welcome, especially mounted riders, horse and buggies and vintage cars, trucks and tractors. Entries don’t have to be from the 1910 era but should represent the spirit of the Abernathy Boys.
Children are encouraged to dress up in their best cowgirl and cowboy outfits and ride a “stick horse” to compete for the best cowgirl/cowboy outfit prize.
